Explanation

Steroids (cortisone or corticosteroid) are drugs that reduce inflammation. They are used to treat different conditions where you can get inflammation, like asthma, eczema and juvenile onset arthritis, as well as some autoimmune illnesses.

Steroids are also used to treat some types of cancer. The steroid that is most often given is called prednisolone.
