Being overweight is when you have more body fat than is healthy for your age and height.
Your body uses energy to run, walk, talk and even think. Energy is measured in calories, and is taken from food during digestion. This happens in your gastrointestinal tract, beginning with peristalsis.
The fuels used by your body to provide energy are carbohydrates, protein and fat. Too much energy causes you to become overweight, or even obese, which is a dangerous condition that can cause serious diseases.
When you don't use all of the energy you get from food, fat gets stored all over your body, causing problems like heart disease later in life. The biggest problem if you are an overweight kid is type 2 diabetes, which you get if the insulin in your body stops working. The levels of fuel get dangerously high in your bloodstream. This is called hyperglycaemia.
