Diuretic
Diuretics, also sometimes called water tablets, are medicines that get rid of extra water from your body. They can be used to treat high blood pressure.
Diuretics work by lowering the amount of water and salt that your kidneys re-absorb, so that the water and salt goes into your urine instead.
This means that you make more urine and lose more water from your blood. You then have a lower volume of blood, so your heart has less work to do and your blood pressure is reduced.
