Amputation
Explanation

Amputation is the proper name for when an orthopaedic surgeon has to cut off part of your arm or leg. This might happen if it gets damaged beyond repair in an accident, or if you have a tumour that is affecting nerves and blood vessels around a bone.

If the doctor decides to amputate part of your arm or leg, you will probably be fitted with an artificial limb after the operation. Artificial limbs are so good these days that people who have them can do anything they want!
