MediHealth - Red blood cell
Red blood cells are the transporter cells of your blood. Another name for red blood cells is erythrocytes.
Their main job is to collect oxygen from the alveoli in your lungs and deliver it all around your body. They also collect waste products from different parts of your body and take them back to your lungs where you breathe them out.
Red blood cells are chock full of haemoglobin. They live for 120 days before they are destroyed in your spleen, but they are constantly being replaced.
